Improve Your Eyesight : Vision Therapy Eye Exercises--Updates Bates Method (1 Hour and 30 Minute Video and Eye Chart Included)
ASIN: 0970015003

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Drawn from the latest and most up to date optical research
Comments: Accompanied by an eye chart and a video tape, James Bellevue's Improve Your Eyesight is specifically intended for the non-specialist general reader seeking to use his or her eyes more efficiently and effectively for the simple purpose of seeing better. Bellevue points out that almost all seeing is self-taught, and as with any other motor skill, can be trained and developed to an optimal peak of performance. Improvement can actually be great enough to make contact lenses and vision defect corrective eyeglasses unnecessary. Through suggested skill building techniques, often dramatic improvements can be made for such conditions as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, decreasing vision associated with advancing age, and more. Improve Your Eyesight basically updates the classic "Bates Method" with applications drawn from the latest and most up to date optical research. Four complete vision therapy programs are provided, plus guidelines to customizing a program for the individual reader's needs. The text is enhanced with on-screen exercises provided by the accompanying video tape. Improve Your Eyesight is a very welcome and uniquely original contribution to alternative health and medicine reference and resource materials.
The Bates Method for Better Eyesight Without Glasses
ASIN: 0805002413

Summary: This method really works!
Comments: I read this book in 1973. At the time I was 29 yrs. old and was quite near sighted. I even had to wear glasses to drive. After doing the simple exercizes in the book, my sight improved dramatically! I no longer wear glasses for any reason. People who I told this method to wouldn't try it because they didn't believe it could be that easy, how stupid. Try it, you have nothing to lose but your glasses or contacts!

The Bates Method: A Complete Guide to Improving Eyesight Naturally
ASIN: 009181281X

Customer's Rating: 1
Summary: The Bates Method A complete guide to improving eysight natur
Comments: This book is disappointing. The title IS misleading.
This is NOT a COMPLETE GUIDE to improving eyesight.
The author is a Bates practicioner and gives you alot of theory and opinion until page 104. In Chapter 8 first paragraph the author even agrees with me by saying " This is not a 'how to' book. A book can explain an idea, but practical skills need to be learned in practice. A book will tell you what, and to some extent why, but only a teacher can show you how."
Any descriptions of "the Bates Method" are just an outline. This book DOES NOT teach you how to properly use the method and should not have been called a COMPLETE GUIDE.
The outline of the Bates exercises are in Chapter 8 and only 27 pages long in the 164 page book.
BE WARNED, DO NOT BUY THIS ONE. Get it from the library like I did if you really want to look but he pushes being TAUGHT by a Bates teacher more than anything else.
Garbage!
Improve Your Eyesight: A Guide to the Bates Method for Better Eyesight Without Glasses
ASIN: 094153393X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: fairly simple, insightful
Comments: Occasionally, someone who has experience improving their eyesight with the Bates Method writes a book to help clarify things for others. The Bates Method is comprised of many subtleties that just about everyone misses at first (and some people never get it). Many people who claim to understand it don't, so it's always refreshing to read a book by someone who knows what he's talking about, and this book is no exception.
One unique offering is his explaining how there are two ways for the brain to block the visual process. One is to interfere with the mechanics of vision, by altering the eye shape with the extrinsic muscles, preventing proper blinking and shifting, and encouraging disease that impairs vision. The other way is what Barnes refers to as altering the consistency of the barrier between the subconscious and conscious mind. The first type of blocking (mechanical) tends to be more easily overcome than the second. The second is purely mental, when there is clear information that has made it through the visual system but it isn't recognized for what it is. So there are times when the eyes are working in an improved manner, but their signals are prevented from passing through the barrier (from the subconscious to conscious mind).
That actually just summarizes one page, and the rest of the book is relatively simple. But if you're new to the Bates Method, read this text slowly, as you are going to miss important principles he slips in if you aren't careful.
