Comments: I was more of a walker and weight training type person rather than an aerobic workout type person, but since I was going to be pregnant over the winter months and didn't want to have to go to the gym to work out, I decided to try some aerobic tapes. This tape was easy to follow, fun to do and challenging. I liked the format of this tape a lot - the instructor's style, the background, and content of the workout. I bought the Kathy Smith aerobic tape but I don't like it as well and rarely use it. I usually alternate between this and my Yoga Mama tape. I'm 7 months and feel great - I attribute that to the workout tapes - and I can totally feel it if I don't get my workout in. The only thing that kind of bugs is that the tape is rather poor quality - had a couple of static-y spots straight from the box - but the substance of the tape is perfect.

Summary: Easy enough for a beginner.
Comments: These workouts are not for those "No Pain, No Gain" people. I love them because, as out of shape as I was, I could do a workout and not be sore the next day. Yet, I definitely saw results after a week. That's because I was able to stick with it. It didn't take a lot of time, and I felt good afterward. It seemed to give me an energy boost. Watching the clock count down during the workout was a real motivator, too. I also love that the tape has two different workouts, so when you no longer find a single workout challenging, you can do them back-to-back for a new level of challenge.

Comments: This is my first Kathy Smith video, and I am impressed. The very first time I used this video, I found it very easy to learn. I didn't get lost once, which is unusual for the first runthrough of a workout. The moves she uses are basic and her instruction is good. Even though the steps were easy to learn, this was not an easy workout to do. It was definately sweat inducing and challenging! It is intense! However, she divided it into sections so people who can't do the whole thing yet can just fastforward to the next section. Her personality is not irritating either. She encourages us to go on, but doesn't patrinize or deliver fake, overly-enthusiastic, rehearsed compliments. She is just straightforward. The only bad things about the video are related to its age. The music and outfits were very early 90's! But this workout is so good that the age can be easily overlooked.

Summary: Good balance of aerobics and toning
Comments: I have a collection of half a dozen workout tapes, but this is one of my favorites. The routines are interesting enough to do frequently. After you've been thru it a few times, you may find that the detailed instructions slow you down a bit, but not too much. The first half is warmup and aerobics, the 2nd half hour is toning and stretching, so its a nice mix and you can do the segments independently. Music is not obtrusive. Instructors are perky and easy to follow. I recommend having a pad/mat for the toning sections.

Summary: For a great workout that makes you beg for mercy, buy this!
Comments: I have tried more than a few of the "Buns/abs/arms of Steel" series, and I can say that hands down this one (the original, produced in '87) is still the absolute best. Forget about the "advanced/intermediate/etc." versions of the Buns series - this one gets you motivated and more importantly, gets you tight in ALL THE RIGHT places. The guy who leads the workout, Greg Smithey, was once an Olympian pole-vaulter and the exercises he uses on this tape were part of his training workout. I PROMISE YOU - YOU WILL FEEL IT!
I still use the tape regularly after a year and still get a pure kick out of the workout, Smithey's mannerisms, and the class's reactions. Granted, you have to be able to get past the 80's pastel leggings, retro film set, and headbands that the studio class and Smithey wear, but that's all part of this workout's charm - you get a kick-butt workout AND more than a few laughs at the same time. A totally (unintentionally) campy workout video! Moreover, IT WORKS. After using this tape (and this tape ALONE) religiously for a week, I saw results. After a month, I had lost noticeable inches. After 3 months - I was addicted and couldn't wait to come home from work to do the workout every day. I love this tape! It truly sculpts the areas that it promises to (backside, thighs, waist) and I highly recommend that you try it!

Comments: I bought this video as an alternative to the wonderful "Standing Legs" This one is just not so tough, but I would suggest it to those just beginning a fitness program as a way to strengthen your lower half before getting serious with "standing legs" You will find that this video concentrates on your body from the waist down, which for most women is THE problem area. Combined with a healthy diet and cardio sessions, this one will be effective for you. However, if you are an advanced exerciser looking for a lower body challenge, get you some big old ankle weights and give this one a go!

Co-instructors Tamilee Webb, Donna Richardson, and Tracy York begin by each leading their own aerobics segments. They utilize easy-to-follow dance moves, throwing in variations like a latin or funk beat. After the aerobics section, you move on to the target toning for the lower body, begining with standing exercises (lunges, plies, etc.) and then eventually moving to the floor. Again, each instructor leads you through a different segment of tough leg, hip, and [glutes] work. The exercises themselves are nothing new, but they're clearly effective. All three instructors provide very good cueing, but I found them each to be much more low key than they are on other tapes. Summary: A good backup to have on the shelf
Comments: This tape is probably best for intermediates. Advanced users may not find it demanding enough, although the final section of pelvic tilts seems to go on forever. In general, I like the length of Claudia's workouts (usually about 35 minutes from beginning to end) and Kathy Kaehler her trainer demonstrates the correct form. The workout is divided into manageable segments. My two gripes with Claudia's tapes are: 1. The warmups are not really warmups, more exercises in their own right. 2. The timing is very often a little off, not much but enough to make it annoying. I wouldn't want to use this as my main workout tape, but it is nice to have as a backup or to add variety to your routine. It does the job and is safe and effective.

One of Pauls seminars cost hundreds of dollars and you can attain this video for less than 20 bucks, sounds like a deal to me.

Comments: What I truly love about this video is the fact that Tamilee is instructing one on one. She is soft spoken, knowledgeable and motivating without being condescending or obnoxious. This video gave my rear and legs a superb workout! The sumo squats are a killer! I didn't have trouble with my knees throughout the workout or afterwards (you have to be extremely careful not to extend you knees beyond your toes). I'm so glad I purchased this video!

She enourages and compliments you throughout the workout. She reviews safety guidelines in the beginning and re-iterates them continually throughout the tape. This may be annoying for a seasoned stepper, but I find this very helpful.
The warm-up is about 5 minutes. The workout begins slowly, with Lynne introducing the basic step and the v-step. Then you move on to kicks and bun squeezes. After you learn all the steps, you repeat the sequence a few times. After 15 minutes you take a heart rate. The second portion uses the step to do lungs and squats. Again, Lynne teaches the steps, then builds to a combination. After the second 15 minute section, you put combine the moves from both sections and link all the movements together. Lynne also demonstrates propulsion moves that you can do as you become more advanced. Even without the propulsion moves, this is still a great workout.
This workout really works your buns, thighs, and hips. I feel energized after using this tape. I have done step aerobics for 2 years and I am always sore the day after using this tape. I highly recommend this tape.

Comments: This tape is so good, I just purchased a replacement tape because the one I had broke. I enjoy this tape the most out of all my Tamilee tapes because it is the most challenging. (I also have the entire Buns of Steel Platinum tapes, the original Buns of Steel Abs tapes, and the Buns of Steel Quick Toning series.) Usually, after using a tape for a couple of weeks, I find them too easy. Being that I wouldn't bother to workout unless I feel challenged, I need an intermediate/advanced workout. This tape works - I really could feel the burn afterwards. It has alot of lunges, squats and pelvic tilts. On lazy days, I don't use weights, but most days I do to increase the burn. This tape is for strengthening, so I use it as a complement to cardio.

Summary: A Bun Buster!
Comments: This step video consists of a 25-minute step routine (includes a warmup and very short cool down) and a 25-minute toning routine for legs and buns. Tamilee Webb, Donna Richardson, and Tracy York all take over the instructor roles throughout the video which I like. It brings a nice change of pace to the workout. The step portion is similar to the routine in the Buns-of-Steel 7 video, but is a little more challenging (in terms of applying power moves) and not as repetitious as the instructors change. I was able to do the step routine the first time I popped the video in, so it is not very complicated. It is also fairly short, but you will make up for it in the next segment: toning.
The toning portion really burns! It is also pretty long for toning exercises (about 25 minutes). I can see how regular use of this video will bring faster results than the older Buns-of-Steel videos. I would have liked to see an abdominal workout thrown in (maybe by cutting the leg toning excercises by half, since the step workout works the legs anyway). Abs are my biggest problem area and I would like to see more videos address them (not just with a handful of crunches that take 5 minutes). On the days I want to work the legs, buns, and hamstrings, this video does the job big time!

Summary: combines skating moves, kickboxing, and ballet
Comments: You won't be sitting or laying down during this workout! All the exercises are standing up. It's challenging, but that's the best part because it works! At first, I could only do the first section of this tape cause I was out of shape, but I quickly advanced. Some moves may be difficult for beginners (hence the intermidiate title)such as power move lunging where you switch legs by jumping into the next lunge. Also, you can feel the burn while holding the plie position. Careful with your knees! The martial arts section definitely improved my balance. The instructors are good coaching proper form and the music includes songs like "I'm Every Woman" and "Blame It on the Sunshine." This video will make you sore in a good way.

Comments: This is the first exercise video that I have been able to follow and keep doing (I am a bit uncoordinated). Tamilee provides excellent instruction and good motivation without being too corny.
The routine goes by quickly (almost too fast) and I can feel the burn in my lower body when I am finished. I really like the video and I am able to do the routine twice a week without dreading it. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to work on their lower body but isn't able to do a lot of lunges or follow complicated steps.

Comments: I have been using this tape for 5 years and haven't tired of it. I had gained 65 pounds while having a difficult pregnancy and lost all of my stomache muscles. This video was easy for me to start and kept me motivated. I ended up losing 70 pounds after doing this tape every day for the first 8 months after having the baby. I haven't gained any weight and now I do this video in addition to other fitness videos. It was great to have those simple moves so that I could really work hard rather than focusing on choreography. Also great that the segments are short. I could squeeze it in when my daughter was napping. Now , she does it with me! Definitely worth it to buy it. Results can be seen quickly!

Summary: Good Power Yoga Introduction
Comments: I have many many yoga tapes by many instructors and in different styles. Overall this tape is pretty good and I do like Ms. Broman. The setting is real nice and I do like the music as well.
My only complaint is that she goes into the balancing poses too early for me. I tend to be very stiff when I first wake up and need a bit longer to warm up before doing any sort of balancing type poses. I would've preferred it if they were preceded by some Triangle and side stretch poses and a bit more time to get more heat into the body.
I definitely prefer Bryan Kest's videos over this in that they are much more thorough and you get much more heat generated in the body. Also, of course David Swenson's short forms is an incredible tape if you want a more Traditional Ashtanga type practice. His tapes also are very balanced and the sequencing seems more friendly to one's body (at least to mine). Rodney Yee's Power Yoga for beginners is pretty nice as well (though I like to precede it with his AM Yoga tape to get a bit extra warmed up first).
Still, the Buns of Steel tape is certainly challenging, and perhaps for those who are "looser" (to use Bryan Kest's term) you might find you don't need quite as much warm up as someone like myself.
It's worth checking out if you want to add variety into your yoga practice.

Comments: I absolutely recommend this video to those who are willing to work hard and receive wonderful results while having LOTS of fun! The first time through is difficult, but even if you stumble through you a few times, you will eventually pick up more and more each time--and eventually become pro! Comments: This is one of the first exercise tapes I ever bought, I was skeptical about the ponytail wearing beefcake on the cover but it was on sale so I went for. I was taken aback at first by the super silly nut warm-up (think Jerry Lewis trying to do a rasta-man impression) but then I kind of warmed up to Tony, he comes across as kind of a goofball but when he is talking business and form he is all serious. For an absolute never worked out a day in my life beginner (I am 30) I felt warmth and encouragement from Tony and I still find this tape challenging as it appeals to all fitness levels. I am in the best shape I have ever been in my life and this tape was my beginning. If you are Mr or Ms workout and super serious this tape is not for you. If you can approach working out with a little humor and a smile, appreciate some warm encouragement and want to feel your buns and thighs burning, go for it... as Tony says "If you don't squeeze it, no one else will!" gotta love him for that.

Comments: I ordered Tamilee Webb's QUICK TONING BUNS OF STEEL after reading the July 5, 2000, review, which said, "It seems as though the video was trying to focus on (Tamilee Webb's) body as opposed to the routine. On a number of occasions, we are shown Tamilee's bare buttocks in her thong fitness outfit ... It is obvious that she wanted to expose her rear end during the video to sell more copies! Is it really necessary to walk around without any clothes on to sell your video?"
But(t), before admiring men order QUICK TONING BUNS OF STEEL, take it from me, those words were false advertising. I purchased the tape and, as I eagerly viewed it, what I'm sure would have been wonderful images of Tamilee Webb's behind never appeared. Disappointed, I sold my copy of QUICK TONING BUNS OF STEEL. (As the 7/5/00 reviewer was anonymous, I wonder if Tamilee Webb herself wrote it to get men to buy her video. Pretty sneaky, Tamilee.)
I can't honestly rate QUICK TONING BUNS OF STEEL as I didn't buy it for the glute exercises. But I rate the video five stars out of lasting (or lusting) admiration for the way Tamilee Webb appeared in two other videos, ABS OF STEEL and ADVANCED WORKOUT ABS OF STEEL. In those two, there are lots of nice shots of Tamilee's incredible body. In the first ABS OF STEEL, you even see a couple of halfway decent rear end shots. And in the second one, she barely wears an eye-popping sports bra. Plus, since both abs videos are from 1991, Tamilee had the prime of her youth working for her, too!

Comments: This video changed the shape of my lower body. No I'm not exaggerating. I've always had problems with that area, I'm a "pear shape". Summary: Overall, a Good Workout
Comments: I LOVE that it is only 30 minutes long! Exercising has never been a joy for me. Getting noticable results from a short workout is a big plus! I agree with other people about the static bar on the bottom of the screen, it just won't go away. Other than that it's a decent tape. It dosen't make you feel like checking the clock to see when the torture will be over. It quickly produces muscle definition, unlike some other tapes. I give it four stars because of the static.
