Dances of India - Learning Bharata Natyam
ASIN: B0000540AQ

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: AN ok start
Comments: this video is an ok start for the simple workouts of this dance">
it has a good foundation for this dance, but some movements are fast and has to be repeated alot to learn. the video itself has some statics which are very annoying.
Invitation to Dance - Ballroom Dancing (Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha)
ASIN: B00005NC5Y

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Invitation To Dance
Comments: I have not yet openned this 2-tape set because I think it may be the same tapes as Vol.1 and 2 of Introduction to Ballroom Dancing also by Kyle and Susan Webb, which I also bought.
Am I right?
Both sets are on the Rumba, Waltz, and Cha Cha.
Or are they different?
African Healing Dance
ASIN: 1564555747

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: african healing dance
Comments: i recommend this video for anyone looking to get or stay fit. this is a nice change from basic aerobics. the instructor explains the moves and performs them slowly before going into each routine. once the drummers set the pace, i found it fairly easy to keep up with the dancers. this doesn't feel like a "workout" so you'll want to do it everyday. i rented a copy of this video from the library before i ordered it and i am a very satisfied customer. it really is a healing dance.
Cal Pozo's Learn to Dance in Minutes - Party Dancing
ASIN: 6304480083

Summary: It was ok.
Comments: Not bad, though the instructions are not that easy to follow at times, and you have to rewind the damn tape to view it again. Overall, you get your money's worth.
Bring Back the Romance of Dance - Instruction Series Overview
ASIN: 6304943849

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Romance of Dance is a hit
Comments: I am a beginner trying to learn the dances in the privacy of my own home. This is one of many that I am using to learn the basic dances and it is one of, if not the very best. It is simple and easy to follow. I recommend it to whoever is brushing up on the dances or beginning to learn the basic steps.
You Can Dance Nightclub - Rock/Disco and Slow Dancing
ASIN: 076972065X

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Get doooowwwnn!
Comments: Nice video. Easy to follow instructions. You'll learn the basic steps pronto! Although the dance styles taught may be a bit outdated. I guess a little bit of knowledge never hurts. Just don't "get down wittit" at any hip trendy nightclub - that'll be embarrassing!.
Leonard Reed's Shim Sham Shimmy
ASIN: 096766330X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Easily to follow even if you're not a tap dancer!
Comments: When I bought this tape I was not a tap dancer and yet I made it through quite easily. Afterwards, when I started attending tap dance classes, I decided to show my teacher what I had learned with the tape, in order to check and see if I had learned it well and if it looked "real" or not. She was awestruck at how I had managed to do it with just a videotape and without knowing how to tap dance. The secret is a good teacher using a good method. I highly recommend it. You're gonna have a great time, for sure!

Celtic Feet: Irish Dancing Step by Step
ASIN: 6304257732

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Too fast for me!
Comments: The steps on this tape move along so fast, it was frequently very difficult to keep up. It needs to explain things better and more clearly. Definately not for beginners or for people with two left feet. I'll pass.
Christy Lane's Learn the Dances of the 50's and 60's
ASIN: 1889127000

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Basic (VERY basic) steps
Comments: If you don't know a single move, this tape is good for you. It starts with the rock'n'roll and it is explained very clearly and energetically by Ms Lane. It gets a little repetitive at times, though, as every time she teaches you a figure she repeats the previous moves you've learnt PLUS the new one... I mean, you could well use your "rewind" button to go over them, and so the video wouldn't feel that long. What I would call the second part, you see other dances of the fifties and sixties which I would have expected to see "in action", that is, not only the explanation by the instructor but some professional people performing them to the music. Many of those are dances for people standing in line, and all you get is Ms Lane on her own, which of course substracts from the real flavour of it. However, at the end of the tape you see a multi-aged crowd dancing at a ballroom but you don't really get to appreciate the footwork -these people are total amateurs learning it only for fun, which reminds you of your aunt and uncle dancing at the last family wedding, nothing else. You don't really see properly polished steps and moves, essential if you want to learn to dance elegantly and with style. If you, like me, did not live in the 50s and 60s this will give you an idea of what the dances were like, but let me add that many of them could well be learnt from any episode of "Get Smart," "The man from UNCLE" or "The Avengers." As a matter of fact, I knew lots of the steps Ms Lane shows, the only thing I didn't know was the names given to those moves! The rock'n'roll of the first part is the best bit and if you've never danced it you can be on the dance floor in just a few minutes doing a variety of figures. In general it did not add much to my previous knowledge, but I guess it would be good for a complete beginner.
Basic Lesson
ASIN: 6300989488

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Wonderful
Comments: My husband and I want to learn to dance so we bought this video. It was great for someone like us who have little dance experience and who want to learn the basic steps. It didn't provide us with much we could use immediately on the dance floor but it did provide a base for us to start from. That is very important. Some of the videos and classes assume you know more than you do. We were very impressed and plan to buy more of his videos.
Jazz Dance Class with Gus Giordano
ASIN: 6301229215

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Whoa, please don't hurt yourself with this video.
Comments: If you have never taken jazz dance before you might find this video difficult. The positions that the instructor wants you to hold require a lot, repeat a lot of flexibility. I think it's a great video, but it should come with a disclaimer. Beginners: if you can't do it, don't force it and hurt yourslef. I really sweat a lot during the video so it was well worth it, however I think some beginners would want a little more explanation before they jump into the excercises. I highly recommend this video if you need to refresh your jazz, or you're a beginner who promises to take it a little easy. :)
You Can Dance - Foxtrot
ASIN: 0769720625

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: You Can Dance Foxtrot
Comments: You Can Dance Foxtrot by Vicki Regan is an excellent video for the beginner with little or no previous dance experience. She and her partner Ron De Vito begin by walking in time to a basic foxtrot rhythm and in 45 minutes systematically build on this to teach the basic walk (forward and back), the rock turn, the promenade and the promenade with turn. In addition they show ways to combine these four steps so that you can feel comfortable improvising on the dance floor.
The tape is easy to follow and you can practice alone or with a partner. Keep in mind however, that it is targeted towards the beginner. If you've ever taken a foxtrot dance class or looked at any other dance videos, you'll probably find this to be to basic for you.
Ipi Ntombi: An African Dance Celebration
ASIN: 078062128X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Better than ever
Comments: I emigrated to the USA from South Africa in 1970, and first heard the tunes from Ipi Thombi -- as it was called then -- in a NYC disco some five or six years later. Then shortly afterward, saw the first stage show live at NYC's Harkness Theater, just before anti-apartheid activists shut it down, throwing the black South African cast and crew out of work. Irony, no? Since then, I have never been able to get its music out of my mind. So I bought the first album mostly featuring Margaret Singana ... then the second double album of the show. Both albums are now almost worn through. Then recently, I happened to catch a glimpse of a familiar scene as I surfed past PBS -- and clicked right back to find myself in the middle of a riotous river of swirling color and African harmonies (unmistakable, and unlike any other!) and saxophones and drums and ankle bracelets and movement (you better BELIEVE we got rhythm!) and almost the SMELL of Africa, even ... and a rush of memories like a blow to the chest. It pins you back to the couch, this show does, and never lets you go. Someone, somewhere, noted that if Ipi nThombi was not already the national opera of South Africa, then it ought to be; and that's true. Is it an odd thing that this sensitive glimpse into the African soul, this great tuneful outburst of black African exuberance was written by two white women? Not if you're South African, no: southern Africa's in your DNA. Watch "Ipi nTombi" and understand.

Yoga in Nature Series: The Sun Salutation Survival Kit - Intermediate
ASIN: B00006L2ZU

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Highly recommended! Lovely production
Comments: Just as in her previous video, which I love, Evamarie gives great instruction. Plus there's the gorgeous scenery, lovely soundtrack - which doesn't drown out her instructions - and an innovative workout - it's not just sun salutations but a well rounded workout. She shows how to safely approach the poses, and her instructions are very detailed and clear. She also mirrors the poses - which is quite unusual in yoga videos - I personally find it very confusing when instructors don't do this. There's a nice relaxation at the end of the workout too which is always welcome! After the workout she gives further instructions to answer any more questions one might have, and a great extra - park bench yoga - a routine one could even do at the office. Very useful!
I must say, I have a huge collection of videos - but Evamarie's rank right up there. I look forward to more of her videos!

The Nightclub Two-Step
ASIN: B00004YZO5

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: If I can dance 2-step, you can
Comments: I saw other people dancing 2-step. I wanted to learn it and therefore bought this tape and try. The type runs for about 1 hour and teaches from basic step to about 10 different patterns, which is enough for doing a dance without repeating the same patterns too often. I learned from it by playing back twice, followed the steps and practiced without a partner. Then I went to the dance floor to do the 2-step for the 1st time with a partner who is a beginner dancer. I was happy that I could lead and dance it out. Although the first time was not very smooth, after several times I can dance 2-step to the music without difficulty now. This is really a good instructional video and worth the money. I like the instructors too.

Summary: Bring it on
Comments: This tape is an excellent tape for people who just want low impact aerobics at a slightly excelerated rate; it's a little faster then most low impact instructers would go, but other than that Molly Fox, the choreography, the music it's all just terrific. Getting physically fit with the music you love from the 60's. Just looking at the people and the set their on takes you back to the 80's; It's great.
Bronze Hustle Teaching Tape
ASIN: 1929574010

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: This Is, The One and Only One to Buy!
Comments: My name is Jeff Allen and some of you may already know me from my Quickstart to Social Dancing series of books. I have just completed my new book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ballroom Dancing". One of the eleven dances covered in this book is indeed "Hustle!"
Although I have been teaching Hustle since finishing as a finalist in the US Championships in 1983, I felt that a strong source for reference for Hustle was absolutely necessary. Not only to substantiate what I have written but also to provide a resource for continued advancement for my readers in this fabulous dance. First I must tell you that it was not easy for me to select one video and book from the many that are out there in the marketplace. I have many friends in the profession who have compiled other video notebooks in Hustle. A video was still needed that met the rigorous standards that a top-level teacher and examiner (of teachers) could use a "Bible".
My first experience with a work by authors John P. Nyemchek and Niel Shell was their incredibly comprehensive book "Hustle". I was overjoyed to learn that this text was produced in a video format! Once viewed it was easy for me to select this one over the six or seven that I already own. The treatment the Johnny and Kathy give the teaching portions of this tape are exemplary for anyone who wishes to learn "Hustle." There are simple examples of both male and female parts shown in each pattern (step or figure) as solo dancers as well as couple. For each pattern there are breakdowns of the amounts of turn and leads and follows. Wait it gets better. There are cumulative progressions for each pattern connecting them to either preceding or following patterns. This shows how each pattern can be used on the dance floor. "What more could any beginner ask for?" For those who have danced Hustle for many years, and those of you who are starting out, you'll find the routine danced by Neil Shell and Diane Hakak both nostalgic and entertaining!
My search to provide a reference for my thousands of readers was completed! I heartily recommend and endorse this video. It has over 40 variations and is the "one and only" you will need to start this dance and continue for some time. It's worth, is well beyond its cost!

80's-Get Fit With the Hits!
ASIN: 6301814142

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Great Workout
Comments: This video really gets your heart pumping and makes you break a sweat. The video starts with two warm up songs ("Who's Zoomin' Who" and "I Can Dream About You"). These warmup songs get you prepared for the five song workout ("Celebration", "Something Special", "Oh Shiela", "Mad About You", and "Bit By Bit"). These five songs give you a great workout. The tape ends with a cool down and stretch song ("Cool It Now"). Overall, this tape is great and I reccomend it to anyone who wants a good workout. For more dancing, try the 50's, 60's, and 70's tapes.

Summary: Disco Arobics
Comments: This video is one of the few exercise videos that I have ever enjoyed using. The routines are not terribly hard, but effective. The filming isn't always perfect - sometimes, the camera focuses on the dancers faces instead of their feet, which can be a little frustrating when first using this video. The real key is that the music is FUN. I hated disco when it first came out, but it is great for moderate aerobic exercise.
Art of Chinese Dance
ASIN: 0970733232

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Art of Chinese Dance Video
Comments: This is a beautifully done video that brings viewers into the world of Chinese dance. Each dance is introduced and a brief explanation of style, technique and origin is given, in addition to the performance. Costumes and dancers are exquisite! Best of all techniques are described at the end of the video and and little (or big!) dancers in your household can attempt the moves that look so effortless on screen. It is a delight to have a video of this caliber on the art of Chinese dance available! My only wish...that this were longer and even more detailed. Still this is a fine introduction to the "Art of Chinese Dance."
