Healing from the Heart: A Leading Surgeon Combines Eastern and Western Traditions to Create the Medicine of the Future
ASIN: 0452279550

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: The Medicine of the Future
Comments: Dr. Oz is an accomplished heart surgeon in the field of cardiac transplantation. He describes how he combines complementary medicine (e.g. hypnosis, reflexology, yoga, message, acupuncture. Etc) with orthodox Western medicine. There is an excellent forward by Dr Dean Ornish, and an interesting epilogue containing an overview of the complementary medicine techniques. The bulk of the book contains stories of patients Dr. Oz treated using this revolutionary way. I am a cardiologist, and I have a great interest in combining western medicine with complementary medicine, which is the reason I bought this book. However this book was a bit boring to read and was also a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, those interested in this new medicine, which I think will be the medicine of the new millennium, will want to read this book.
Who Can Ride the Dragon?: An Exploration of the Cultural Roots of Traditional Chinese Medicine
ASIN: 0912111593

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: mind, language, perception
Comments: The book is extremely courteous in guiding the reader through the basic structure of that enormously complicated thing called Chinese culture. The first part will be particularly helpful to those who do not know the Chinese language in the way it shapes and articulate thought for those who think in Chinese. The entire cosmology upon which medical theories and perceptions have been formulated is laid out as a reflection of the mirror (language) that bears the warpature to best suit the Chinese language. The first part ably shows how the fact that Chinese does not have temporal tenses in its grammar affects the shaping of premises with regard to the body and medicine in Chinese worldview. Food and Chinese cooking are also introduced as important vehicles that have carried Chinese medicine through its path of evolution. The latter part of the book deals with more theoretical concepts, including philosophy, and how they gave rise to and founded certain clinical practices. The book is an organic introduction to a science that is founded and corrected on the lived experience of thousands of cases observed over two thousand years.
The Future of Healing: Exploring the Parallels of Eastern and Western Medicine
ASIN: 1580910653

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The Old Becomes New: the Future of Healing
Comments: This book explores the amazing similarities, connections, and commonalities shared by Western science and Eastern mysticism. Milburn distills the knowledge of the ancient Chinese philosophers and reviews the discoveries of both the pioneers of twentieth century physics and the cutting edge contemporary scientists of the "new biology". Striking parallels emerge from this discussion and exciting ideas for a new approach to medicine are presented.
The intellectual triumph and popular appeal of this book are a product of the author's treatment of two seemingly opposite, but equally expansive and difficult, subjects; Eastern and Western medicine. Topics as diverse as the mysteries of Qi and field theory are deftly explained, losing none of the inherent complexity while still easily comprehended by the reader.
For anyone interested in health, on a personal or societal level, "The Future of Healing" is a must. Avenues of thought are available here which can be found nowhere else in such a succinct and entertaing format.
Back to Balance: A Holistic Self-Help Guide to Eastern Remedies
ASIN: 4770019238

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A great book that teaches us how to balance our lives
Comments: Dylana Accolla and Peter Yates simplify chinese medicine and herbology for handling physical and emotional problems. Shows how to easily prepare chinese herbal remedies and also includes special exercises for special needs. This book is very easy to read and follow. A great book for anyone who wants to understand chinese medicine, but has been confused reading other books on the subject. I have personally used the treatments in this book and they work. I'm glad they wrote it!
