Less Stress Surgery : A Guided Imagery Relaxation Tape
ASIN: 1893557006

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Less Stress Surgery
Comments: I went in for major surgery and was fortunate to get Dr. Neimark's tape on Less Stress Surgery. There are a few points Dr. Neimark mentioned that was very helpful.
1.Think of your blood flow moving away from the area of the surgery. I did this and I had very little blood loss.
2.When you have discomfort (pain) make your mind think of good experiences. This worked great for me. I thought of my wife and kids.
3.When you wake up from surgery start thinking of you favorite foods. This will get your intestine's working faster. I dreamed about cheesecake! It sure helped.
I would recommend anyone going through surgery to listen to Dr. Neimark tape.
Guided Imagery for Groups: Fifty Visualizations That Promote Relaxation, Problem-Solving, Creativity, and Well-Being
ASIN: 1570250669

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: An interesting and informative book...
Comments: This book is an essential and beneficial addition to the shelf of any trainer, therapist or individual dealing with a tense situation or loss. Andrew Schwartz's Guided Imagery for Groups includes fifty scripts for relaxation. There are also comprehensive explanations of both relaxation and guided imagery basics and the role of a guided imagery facilitator is well explained. Schwartz also offers techniques for practicing visualization sessions which can be modified for individual use. Each script has an easy-to-follow formula which outlines the goal of the imagery, the length of the exercise, suggestions for the best audience and necessary materials. Optional group processing activities further enhance the visualization techniques described within the book. As someone with relatively little experience with training techniques, I found the author's style to be clear and thorough. This manual is an excellent resource for anyone looking to diversify his or her presentation style.
Guided Imagery for Self-Healing: An Essential Resource for Anyone Seeking Wellness
ASIN: 091581188X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: above the rest
Comments: I am a therapist and use guided imagery alot. Rossman's book is invaluable to me as a therapist and my clients as well. It is very clear and can be recommended to my clients who are interested. But the healing power of interactive guided imagery surpasses any quided imagery that we can come up with, another words - it is better to help guide someone to their own healing places, images, and symbols. It never ceases to amaze me the self healing mechanisms that we possess - even the most trumatized. This is a suburb book, above all the rest!
Spinning Inward: Using Guided Imagery With Children for Learning, Creativity and Relaxation
ASIN: 0877734224

Summary: Spinning Inward a great book for children AND adults
Comments: I have been using this book for years in a meditation class I teach. The meditations are original, fun and very relaxing. I highly recommend it.
Healing Trauma : Guided Imagery for Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD) - Cassette Format
ASIN: 1881405249

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A RARE AND TRULY REMARKABLE SELF-HELP TAPE
Comments: It is truly unusual to find so many good things and such an absense of the usual annoying things in a self-help tape. THIS IS RARE EFFORT flawlessly executed and wonderful by any standard for this catagory.
The sound is lush and the musical selection fresh, appropiate, and excellent. Naparstek's voice and reading so hypnotic and flowing--one of the most perfect voices in all of the self-help field. A rich warm COMFORTING voice that seems genuine--believable--not overdone. She never once stumbles or falls out of context in either tone or pitch and her pacing is masterful.
Together they made the visions I was having on the first listening take on a very movie like quality. Relaxing yet at the same time holding my interest all the way through.
The approach in both the guided images (side one) and the affirmations (side two) is fairly direct while prudently avoiding re-traumatization through too much digging up and repeated reliving.

I came away refreshed and with a curiously pleasant feeling that some of these things may work out after all.
Your Present: A Half-Hour of Peace: A Guided Imagery Meditation for Physical and Spiritual Wellness
ASIN: 0965072401

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: An opportunity to relax and release your creative flow.
Comments: Often, when the creative juices are flowing too rapidly, stress responses set in. Just a half hour with the soothing sounds and guided imagery on Susie Mantell's audio allow me to re-focus, relax, get centered and be even more creative without stressing out. Sometimes it's helpful to make a space for this meditative time in the late afternoon hours, when food might be the band-aid for a stressful day or at night, just before falling asleep, I use the imagery to set myself up for peaceful dreams. It's a wonderful gift to give to myself.
Roots and Wings Workbook - Guided Imagery And Meditations To Transform Your Life
ASIN: 1928663001

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The Gift of Insight
Comments: The Roots&Wings Workbook is a wonderful guide to explore one's life experiences. I found it to be an amazing aid in gaining a new perspective on events of my childhood as well as my present life that I had considered to be obstacles. The exercises in the workbook are designed to help one see these situations and events as the learning experiences that give one strength and depth and are actually catalysts for personal growth. The companion CD provides the relaxation and meditative mood to view things from a different perspective, as a witness rather than a victim. The Day to Day journal in the workbook offers a systematic approach to examing feelings, experiences, goals and beliefs. The Insight section relating to family was most helpful in changing my paridigm regarding the relations with my family members.
The workbook reflects Puja Thomson's tremendous insight and loving approach to life's events. I am very fortunate to have discovered this book, and to experience the wisdom it contains.
Visual Tennis
ASIN: 0880118032

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The BEST way to master tennis strokes.
Comments: John Yandell has pioneered a new, and shockingly simple, way of first understanding how tennis shots are actually hit, and second how to teach this complex information in the most effective way possible to students.
To answer the first question, I will quote John:
"Of the thousands of words coaches and teaching pros have used to describe tennis strokes in lessons, articles, videos, etc., no single element is more neglected and misunderstood than the role and position of the hitting arm. In fact, even the term 'hitting arm' is largely unfamiliar in the vast lexicon of tennis tips."
What John says is hard to believe, but as a life-long student and as a teacher for many years, I know what John says is right on the money. In tennis, no one has been able to identify, with certainty, the position and path of the wrist and forearm through the shot. It has all been guess work and impression. And this information, of course, is the key to hitting good shots! The reason John has been able to answer this question is through cutting-edge, high-speed photography, which shows us exactly how professional tennis shots are hit. The naked eye (and the reports and tips of pro players) are surprisingly incorrect and misguided perceptions of what really happens during a stroke. The strokes are just too fast to capture.
To answer the second question about teaching, John has discovered something that I have long suspected. People learn physical movements and skills by watching and observing real-life examples, and then repeating these examples. We do not learn physical movements by words and instructions. We learn these things visually. Furthermore, we do not break down the strokes into minute, piece by piece progressions. Instead the brain needs three "key" images -- the backswing, the point of contact, and the follow through--ingrained in its memory. Once these key images are remembered, it becomes very easy to turn them into full, uninterrupted strokes.
Like another reviewer here, I too turned a pretty average stroke (my forehand) into a powerful consistent weapon soon after using the visual system. And this was after years of following "tips" and "advice" of pros. The speed and level of improvement were just breathtaking for me.
In short, Yandell's ideas are pioneering ones in terms of learning, teaching, and understanding a complex sport like tennis. I urge you to check out his website, "tennisone.com" which has footage of pro strokes -- Agassi, Sampras, Venus Williams, etc in super, super slow motion. I agree with the reader that complained of the pictures in the book not being pictures of the pros. But John's website, with its library of super slow motion video of pro strokes (shot at 250 frames/second, whereas television replays are shot only at 30 frames/second) certainly rectifies this omission.
Staying Well With Guided Imagery
ASIN: 0446671347

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: An excellent guide!
Comments: If I had to just rely on one book to assist me with relaxing my patients as they come through Radiology, this would be it. I've used the meditations in it and the explanations about how imagery works to help create a healing mind state in my patients, and transform anxiety and fear. It works!
Opening to God: Guided Imagery Meditation on Scripture (Pathways in Spiritual Growth)
ASIN: 0835807681

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Great Way to Pray and to Start Discussions
Comments: I read Opening to God first as a book about prayer, then I discovered that Carolyn Stahl Bohler has actually written prayers and ways to engage in conversation with God. Simply taking the time to read and reflect and rest in silence with her guided prayer meditations allows me to hear the still small voice of God.
Most of Dr. Bohler's meditations are based on the four Gospels, episodes in the ministry of Jesus. She does include prayer meditations based on some Psalms and other Old Testament books as well as some of the New Testament epistles. I used one of the meditations with a church youth group. Dr. Bohler uses a meditation from a noncanonical Gospel. The meditation worked very well with the kids in the group, then they wanted to know where the scripture was located. "Gospel of Mary." "What's that? You mean the Song of Mary? The Magnificat?" "No, the Gospel of Mary." That led to conversation about the criteria for inclusion within the canonical ranks of scripture. Good conversations about the importance of scripture and the kids are continuing to read and reflect on the scripture and to study the history of scripture and the church. Excellent for a church in an urban setting!
Healing Images for Children: Teaching Relaxation and Guided Imagery to Children Facing Cancer and Other Serious Illnesses
ASIN: 0963602721

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Essential for Child Psychotherapists and School Psychologists
Comments: Nancy Klein clearly applies the best that trance and metaphor have to offer in assisting children and families confronted by cancer. Her unpretentious and direct self-instruction book serves as essential reading for any psychotherapist who wants to learn how to apply trance and metaphor as psychotherapy tools in life-threatening situations. Just as Milton E. Erickson's medical condition fueled his way of healing others, so also, Nancy Klein's medical history fuels her way of healing children and families. School Psychologists and Psychotherapists supporting children confronting serious medical conditions will value this book.
Health Journeys for People With Multiple Sclerosis (A Guided Imagery Tape)
ASIN: 1570420165

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Incredible!
Comments: This is an incredible little tape. Side 1 is the guided imagery which is I guess about 20 minutes and side 2 has some reinforcement phrases to say to yourself. The guided imagery is terrific. She takes you to a s pecial place, you address your immune system directly, telling it you're ok and they can stand down, and she helps you surround yourself with support. The first time I listened I cried like I hadn't cried in a long time. I didn't know how much I had kept inside. It is such a good tape I can't say enough.

Jewish Guided Imagery: A How-To Book for Rabbis, Educators and Group Leaders
ASIN: 0918834163

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Intro to Jewish Imagery 101
Comments: Dov Peretz Elkins deserves credit for taking a complex subject and trying to make it accessible to a broader audience as his mentor Jack Canfield (author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul") has done. Unfortunately, in his effort to offer a degree of breadth regarding the usage of guided imagery, he sacrifices depth. Since this book is primarily about the use of Jewish Guided Imagery for pedagogical purposes, the reader would have been better served had Elkins limited his scope to addressing imagery in a religious learning context. Instead the book attempts to address vast topics such as the use of imagery in stress reduction, psychoneuroimmunology, and therapeutic interventions. Greater emphasis on learning styles, the emotional aspects of relgious education, and traditional uses of imagery in Judaism would have been beneficial. In addition, given the target audience of this book (educators, rabbis, etc.), a more academic approach would have better substantiated his stance.
Despite these drawbacks, Elkins has provided the reader with dozens of examples of guided imagery exercizes in addition to teaching us how to immediately begin to use imagery in religious education work. The book outlines important considerations for providing successful experiences with those who have had little exposure to guided imagery. Overall, this book is a helpful tool despite a somewhat simplistic presentation. It is recommended as a jump off point.
Guided Imagery, Vol. 1
ASIN: 1880698013

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Comments on the Meditations
Comments: I have used this book extensively in my personal and professional life. I find the meditations soothing and extremely helpful in focusing my energy and my thoughts. I also use the meditations in this book in professional counseling practice and my clients find these mediations very beneficial to their growth and healing. What I especially like about this book and the 2 other meditation books, Meditations for Healing and Meditations for Awareness is that they include a variety of authors. This inclusion of many authors I believe helps to expand the consciousness of the reader and increase the flow of energy during the mediation. I would highly recommed these books. I have purchased many copies of these books as gifts of healing, awakening and transformation for family and friends. PJ8115@AOL.com
