Summary: Easy excercises for parents who love to touch their baby!
Comments: The excersises are divided into six parts and are easy to follow. The massage therapist takes her time to show you how to do it in a non patronizing manner. The tips about massaging your baby while shopping, sitting in a park, any where else than on 'the baby massage table' are also very useful. And although the video was recorded in 1991 it doesn't have that dated feel to it.
Our son is 3 months old and enjoys all types of massage, all according to his moods: the head massage when he is sleepy, the back massage after playing, the leg and arm massage right after waking up. Even the excersises we have made up along the line, inspired by the video, he enjoys! Massaging is truly a gift to both baby and parents!

Comments: I found this video to be a fantastic way to do something nonverbal, healing and interactive with my child.
My case is not the norm -- my son needed heart surgery and for a while, when I couldn't hold him, baby massage was the only way I could touch him to make him feel better and let him know I was there.
The techniques I learned with "Baby Massage: A Video for Loving Parents" helped me to keep contact with my son in a gentle and healthy way.
Even after his recovery, I continue to give him massage. There are things I can do to show him how much I love him: Feeding him, changing his diaper, making him comfortable, holding him, and massaging him.
These things are universal, they are the ways all parents communicate love to their babies -- all parents should add baby massage to the list.
"Baby Massage" also showed me how to take my time and be patient with my child. It is like we are learning about each other during this personal time.
Not only are the lessons in "Baby Massage" good. The instruction is pleasant to watch and makes the massage easy to learn.
The music is wonderful. Because it is mostly rhythm instrumental (Mickey Hart's "Music To Be Born By" is perfect), it helps in pacing the massage.
I also liked the things the other parents had to say. It helped me make a connection to what the video was teaching.
I think this video would be a GREAT gift for expectant, adoptive and new parents (and maybe even grandparents). After having such great success with it, I've given it as a present. (It sure takes the guess work out what to get for baby showers!)
As a mother and someone who practices baby massage, I highly recommend "Baby Massage: A Video for Loving Parents."

Summary: even for gas and colic
Comments: i love this movie as much as my 4 month old son does. i started doing the massages as soon as his belly button healed and now it has become a sort of ritual. i give him a massage every night now before bedtime and he falls fast asleep and stays there for as many as 8 hours. i love how they show the steps on real babies, and give you time to keep up. best of all this tape has special techniques for babies with gas and colic. after buying this tape i never had to go out and look for a different or better one because it has everything. i also love how it offers me another bond to share with my son.

The sound quality is poor and is sometimes hard to understand what is being said.

Summary: Hospital class found the voice a problem
Comments: We showed this to a group of new moms. They liked it, and particularly liked the baby shots, thought it was a great idea. One of the Moms (OK, she's a trained radio announcer,) found fault with the voice tone, and once she started in the other moms made similar comments. We ended up going back to a demo class without video, but let's face it, not everybody can get to a class. Buy this, because you ought to massage your baby.

Comments: Gentle Touch Infant Massage is a very good video that demonstrates the massage strokes and places emphasis on the importance of touch and communication with babies. As a Registed Nurse, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Holistic Nurse, Certified Infant Massage Instructor and mother I have used the information provided in this video at work in the neonatal intensive care nursery and at home.
