Reflexology For Every Body
ASIN: 096805871X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Reflexology For Everybody By Joan Cosway-Hayes
Comments: Cosway-Hayes has prepared a fully illustrated step-by-step guide to reflexology. It's totally fool-proof with a comprehensive index and links between what ails you and how reflexology can cure you. More importantly, her book dispenses information about a more healthy and stress-free lifestyle. She is serious that her book really is everybody, even those of us, who are rushed to find time to apply it. Why you can even use some of the techniques while you're talking on the telephone. Here's an irresistable book that sells itself over and over again. Enjoy.

Better Health With Foot Reflexology (10th ed)
ASIN: 1891130005

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Mastering the Art and Science of Foot (and Hand) Reflexology.
Comments: This book is absolutely the very best, and most scientifically thoughtful reflexology text I have ever read, or even browsed through. I wish that this book were used as text for the 18 hour course I completed at a nearby massage school; it is that good.
Mr. Byers draws on his years of close, personal work with his Aunt Eunice Ingham (a practicing nurse), her notes, her correspondance; as well as, his own experience as a practicing reflexologist, scientist, teacher, and lecturer as matterial this dynamic text. What makes this such an awsome book is that he not only covers time-proven, accurate methods of foot reflexology, but also anatomy and physiology which is such crucial knowledge for anyone interested in holistic medicine. I have not seen such adequate coverage of anatomy in any other volume, as it appears here. In addition, Mr. Byers takes an uncubersome scienticic approach, coupled with an easy reading, easy comprehending writting style, with plenty of clear illustrations which makes it a perfect for practitioner and layman alike. He leaves nothing to the immagination. Though I have one copy already, I intend to purchase another for a backup -something I've never done with any other book. It is that good!
Please, please, please buy this book, you won't be sorry!
HANDS ON FEET The New System That Makes Reflexology a Snap
ASIN: 0762409614

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Spiced up my marriage!
Comments: This book was a gift from a friend for my birthday last month. After flipping through it (it's easy to read and simple), I decided to try out a few things on my husband. It came with these Reflexology Sox that showed me where to push and knead on his foot, and Frank soon started moaning as his eyes glazed over! It's been awhile since we have found anything that we can enjoy together, and do to each other. It's relaxing and stimulating at the same time, and he's even reading the book now to see what he can pick up. Lots of fun!
Reflexology: The Definitive Practitioner's Manual
ASIN: 1862041253

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: If you're serious about reflexology, THIS is THE book to own
Comments: I agree completely with the previous reviewer. This book is truly "The Definitive Practitioner's Manual" as the title states. And if you plan to practice reflexology professionally, this is THE book to own. It's more costly than most of the other reflexology books available, but well worth the investment.
Original Works of Eunice D. Ingham: Stories the Feet Can Tell Thru Reflexology/Stories the Feet Have Told Thru Reflexology
ASIN: 0961180439

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Stories The Feet Can Tell
Comments: Even thought this book was originally copywrited in 1938 it remains a classic in the field. The photographs and diagrams are excellent. Every part of the body is covered, in terms of how foot massage [or reflexology] may help alleviate pain and illness. The author has some very moving stories of how people with seeming impossible injuries or illnesses were helped by these techniques. This is an excellent little book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recomment it.

The Complete Guide to Foot Reflexology
ASIN: 0960607013

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: A reliable book for beginners and skilful practitioners too
Comments: This is a very good revised edition of Kunz and Kunz's first work. It has a very charming is shape and exceptional editing but its flexible cover should be better.
Kunz and Kunz are among the few researchers about Reflexology in the world,
therefore they have a respectable work. They expose the concept, the theory and the objectives of Reflexology in a correct way. Their high level technique is perfectly presented and demonstrated in details by good illustrations and clear descriptions. As much as possible, not boring.
The book has good charts and summaries about the developing of a session, cues to reading the foot and disorders and its corresponding reflex areas. The foot and hand Reflexology charts, though not in color, are accurate and detailed.
I have been Reflexologyst for twenty years and I really recommend it to beginners and also to skillful practitioners as a complete and trustable reference.
Reflexology for Beginners: Healing Through Foot Massage of Pressure Points
ASIN: 0738700983
The Joy of Reflexology: Healing Techniques for the Hands and Feet to Reduce Stress
ASIN: 0316314668

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Surprising technique
Comments: Okay, so I'm a nurse and dedicated to the medical establishment from which I draw my livelihood! I also have great respect for scientific methodology. That said, I also have to admit to an innate curiosity about alternative approaches to health care, and so when my license needed 30 CEUs for renewal, one of the courses I decided to take was one on reflexology. I purchased The Joy of Reflexology for that course and began reading it with more than a little skepticism. Although it suggested that practicing the art on oneself was less effective than doing so on another subject, I happened to have no one else at hand on whom to practice the techniques, so it was me or nobody. I was totally prepared to pooh-pooh the entire thing as so much bumpkin, when I discovered that the very unpleasant hip pain from which I was suffering at the time resolved and didn't return when certain pressure points on my feet were massaged as indicated in the text. Since I had been kept awake nights over the preceding several months, turning over and repositioning myself about every half hour trying find a more comfortable way to rest, I can tell you I was fully prepared to eat crow when the massage technique worked! True, a population of 1 isn't the best statistics, and a test on oneself is hardly the makings of a double blind study. So, coincidence? Maybe. But I got the first uninterrupted eight hours of sleep I'd gotten in months! I'll take it. Thank you Miss Gillanders.
My Reflexologist Says Feet Don't Lie

Comments: My Reflexologist Says Feet Don't Lie by professional reflexologists Kevin and Barbara Kunz is a brief, easily understandable introduction and overview to the subject of foot reflexology, which is the practice of stimulating pressure sensors in the feet to promote better health and wellness. Drawing upon their twenty-five years of reflexology experience, Kevin and Barbara Kunz write in language easily accessible to any lay reader wanting to learn more about this historic and venerable health practice. Black-and-white photographs as well as a color photograph section illustrate the many points to be made about human feet. My Reflexologist Says Feet Don't Lie is highly recommended for anyone curious about reflexology and its benefits.
Body Reflexology: Healing at Your Fingertips
ASIN: 0735203563

Customer's Rating: 1
Summary: Body Reflexology a bit confusing
Comments: This book has several flaws that make it difficult for the reader to understand the author's message. First of all, the book is not well organized. It does not present material in an order in which the reader can learn. For example, the illustrations are not in a logical order, so the reader is required to skip forward and backward many pages, and sometimes chapters, in order to see the diagram that relates to a paragraph of text. The second major flaw is that there is no bibliography, and references are alluded to only vaguely, making it nearly impossible for the discerning reader to check the facts. I would not recommend this book as a first, or even second, choice for someone who is setting about to learn this healing art.

Did Adam and Eve Have Navels?: Discourses on Reflexology, Numerology, Urine Therapy, and Other Dubious Subjects
ASIN: 0393049639

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Entertaining reading for skeptics
Comments: With the demise of Carl Sagan, Martin Gardner perhaps gains the crown of America's leading scientific skeptic. In this collection of essays (all but one from the Skeptical Inquirer), he neatly skewers numerous examples of pseudoscience, from those listed in the subtitle to other, more legitimate topics like Freudian psychotherapy and UFOs. He also has chapters on Isaac Newton, who, it is found, is not so much the first scientist as the last alchemist, and religion as addressed by Stephen Jay Gould and Charles Darwin.
As usual, skeptics will be entertained and believers will be outraged. As a skeptic myself, I found it entertaining if mostly lightweight reading, with the sections less involved with pseudoscience (like the ones mentioned above) the more interesting.

Summary: Enough with the anecdotes!
Comments: This book is somewhat infuriating. It offers the promise of showing you ways of relieving tension through foot reflexology, but the layout of the book makes it impossible to apply any of the information. Let's say you have some lower back pain? Might there be a reflex you could rub to find some relief? Sure! Could you find it in this book? Maybe. The sections are far too spread out, and there are far too many cutesy little anecdotes in which the author describes her personal success as a reflexologist.
A better way to design the book would be the following: show a specific reflex's location on the foot in a clear diagram. Then describe HOW to stimulate the reflex, and WHY? With the current layout, you're forced to flip back and forth between sections and chapters. If I'm giving someone a foot massage, I should be able to keep the book on one page and identify the reflex that I'm rubbing, and, without turning the page, see a diagram detailing HOW to rub it.
Very poor design. But if you don't actually intend to use the information in the book, and just want a manual that'll sit on your shelf, this is the book for you!

Summary: Thumbs Down
Comments: While this book does give you information on the philosophy behind reflexology, and perhaps a basic idea of the techniques, I have seen much better books describing reflexology and that contain references to where their information came from.
This book makes a lot of wild claims that are not substantiated with research or documentation of any kind. I embrace the use of integrative medicine, including reflexology, but I despise books like these that blow a lot of "hot air" about what this modality can do without substantiating it with where the information came from.
In addition to all the "hot air," there is misinformation. For example, in chapter 27, there is the heading "How to measure your own blood pressure." Here the author proceeds to tell you how to check your pulse. Obviously the author has personal points of confusion that she passes on to her readers.
Keep looking for a better book.

Summary: Not a reflexology book - but good!
Comments: Bekhterev's use of the word "reflexology" is very different from its current meaning (he worked in early 1900s!). This book gives a lot of information on interaction between psychology and physiology, based on numerous experiments conducted by Bekhterev.
Some of these results were rediscovered in the West only in 1990s.
