The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui: The Traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho Treatment Positions and Numerous Reiki Techniques for Health and Well-Being
ASIN: 0914955578

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A Fascinating Revelation of Dr. Usui's Practices
Comments: Having read Mr. Petter's previous books, I find that "The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui" is the finest of them. The information is delivered clearly and concisely with exquisite photographs to demonstrate the practices the text reveals. One can easily understand and repeat the lessons originally used by Dr. Usui, and these are a marvelous adjunct to one's Reiki practice. For new inquirers about Reiki, the revelation of the true history of Reiki is as fascinating as the legend presented by the Western Reiki lineages. Mr. Petter is to be applauded for honoring Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the western world. I have taught Reiki for 10 years and will use this book in my classes as a required text. It is hoped that, one day, the publishers will create an enlarged poster of the beautiful hand-placement photographs shown throughout the book and collected in the final pages.
Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art
ASIN: 0895947366

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Essentisal Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art
Comments: I have been a Reiki Master/Teacher for many years now and I love Diane Stien's book. All of my students love the way the she explains everything in such detail. All of my students also say that they can feel her love of Reiki in the way she writes about it. My Master/Teacher learned and got all of her degrees in Reiki from Diane and told me that she really is a very loving spirit.
To any future student of Reiki--I feel that this is THE BEST book to study from at first--then you can move on to new books.
A Guide to Your Practice of Reiki Energy Healing
ASIN: 0966407202

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Brillant introduction into the world of Reiki
Comments: Penelope Jewell has explained in full detail the applications and the different uses of Reiki not only in the healing form, but also implementing Reiki into everyday uses in life. This complex healing art is brought to light through excellent illustrations and clear and concise explanation of each step of the many uses of Reiki.
Reiki: The Healing Touch
ASIN: 1886785058

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Excellent course manual
Comments: I highly recommend this book to all Reiki Masters, and to those students who feel like their Reiki I and/or II training lacked depth and clarity. I have to disagree with the previous few reviewers who slammed the book for being too oriented towards the author's healing center. The book has pages and pages of diagrams of hand positions, both for self-treatment and the treatment of others, useful articles on how to develop your own Reiki practice, updated history on where Reiki comes from, a chapter on how to use the symbols (and very few books show the actual symbols, so if you want the symbols then buy the other books), as well as good general information on what Reiki is. It does have one chapter on the author's school of teaching, so you can just skip that chapter if it doesn't interest you. And it does have a "catalog" of items you can buy from his Center...but it is in the appendix where it belongs. And throughout the manual he stresses that Reiki is open to all and it isn't required that you go to his Center for training. He simply offers his Center as a resource if you want it. He also shares a list of related books that have nothing to do with him or his Center. This book is a valuable resource. Not a be-all/end-all for Reiki, but the best manual for Reiki I and II that you will find anywhere! I use it for my classes and I am not affiliated with the author or his Center. It is also not the only book on Reiki that I own. This is just a great place to get a strong foundation of information in a few pages.
Modern Reiki Method for Healing
ASIN: 0968810004

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Reiki flowering full blown from Satori
Comments: Reiki practitioners in the West will find much that is illuminating about Modern Reiki Method for Healing by Hiroshi Doi. With this book, Doi-sensei dispels some of the more common myths associated with the founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui. Doi-sensei integrates Western Reiki and Japanese Reiki into a distinct compelling tradition that reaffirms both the essential teachings of Usui-sensei and their roots in Buddhist thought and practice. The result is a healing method and practice of great benefit to both practitioners in the East and in the West.
Hiroshi Doi came to Reiki somewhat serendipitously. Having studied a number of alternative healing methods including crystal healing and qi-gong, Doi-sensei's first exposure to Reiki was during the late 80's as Reiki, or more accurately, Western Reiki, began to spread through Japan. It was during this time that Doi-sensei began to investigate the Japanese roots of Reiki with some surprising results. While in the West, it had been commonly taught that Usui-sensei's original Reiki school no longer existed, Doi-sensei was blessed to discover this was not so. He even had the good fortune to receive attunements from practitioners who had received their attunements and healings from Usui-sensei or from Usui's successor, Hayashi-sensei. Reiki had not died out in Japan as was previously thought; it was just not commonly taught or promoted. Furthermore, Doi-sensei's research into the history of Reiki uncovered much about Reiki's founder, Usui-sensei.
Whereas in the West, many of us have learned that Usui-sensei was a Christian minister or that he taught in a University, Doi-sensei reveals a man and a technique firmly rooted in Buddhist tradition. Usui-sensei not only adhered to the principles and practices of Tendai Buddhism, he also received formal instruction in zazen meditation from a Zen temple. Likewise, it has been commonly thought that Usui-sensei had a revelation about Reiki while fasting on Mt. Kurama, a mountain sacred to Tendai Buddhists, after years of researching Tibetan and other scriptures for information about healing. Doi-sensei asserts this is not the case. Usui-sensei's understanding of Reiki is now to be seen as the fulfillment of the satori or sudden enlightenment he atttained on Mt. Kurama after a period of prolonged meditation and fasting.
In sharp contrast to Western style Reiki, which has been spread chiefly as an alternative healing method, albeit a healing method with a pronounced spiritual component, Doi-sensei's Reiki Method or Reiki-Ho is a spiritual path first and foremost. As a spiritual path, Reiki-Ho places emphasis on the consistent practice of meditation, gassho, adherence to the Five Admonitions, cleansing of one's chakras, and healing one's karma. The goal is nothing less than the attainment of Satori, which means sudden enlightenment. Both consistent practice and satori, according to Doi-sensei, attune one ever more completely with the higher vibrational energy that is Reiki and thus, one becomes a more effective agent of healing in the world. This places Reiki-Ho firmly within the lotus blossom of Mahayana Buddhism. It is a way of life that emphasizes work on oneself and one's attainment of spiritual understanding leading up to and including enlightenment as a means of realizing the boundless compassion that is the innermost wellspring of each and all beings' existence in this world. As we realize our compassionate nature, we are moved to act more compassionately in the world and to aid those who suffer.
This is not merely a philosophical or religious stance. The practical implications are that a being who has attained such realization is better able to act as a vehicle of the higher vibrational wisdom-blessing energy that is Reiki. In other words, more Reiki is channelled more effectively to achieve greater healing of self, others, and the world at large. While Doi-sensei does not delineate Reiki-Ho as school or sect of Buddhism, he has made it abundantly clear to all that Reiki is a flower that has grown from the ever fertile soil that is Buddhism.
Though this book will certainly benefit any practitioner who reads it, Modern Reiki Method for Healing is not without its difficulties. Foremost among these is an exceptionally awkward translation into English. Secondly, the frequent enumeration of ideas and the parenthesis of concepts gives significant portions of the book the appearance of an outline for a book rather than a completed work. This important work will surely be reprinted; thus it seems likely these issues will be addressed and corrected in later editions.
Typically, books about reiki flow over the reader like the caress of cherry blossoms in the Spring...but not this one. The translation and odd format will require a certain amount of commitment to wrestle the meaning out of the more difficult passages. Nonetheless, those who persevere will gain considerably both in their grasp of Reiki history and practice as it is understood in the East and in their understanding of just how valuable a jewel Reiki is both as a healing practice and as a spiritual path.
The Spirit of Reiki: The Complete Handbook of the Reiki System: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental, Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, tre
ASIN: 0914955675

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Nice Overview of Reiki Healing and Traditions
Comments: This book carefully examines the roots of Reiki healing and the nature of energy healing, from a metaphysical and scientific perspective. It provides many beneficial insights and explanations, covering everything from chakras and subtle energy layers to shamanism, the meridians, and Taoist theories of yin/yang and 5 elements. In covering so much, the authors address some issues that need to be covered in more depth. For example, the chakra color associations listed are misleading, and the elements described are just one system which is not compared to other common metaphysical/alchemical systems. Nevertheless, this book is about the best at putting Reiki in a suitable context and explaining how and why it produces healing and transformation.
Hand to Hand
ASIN: 1401049605

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Accessible,useful Reiki information
Comments: Having about 20 years of study and practice in various healing systems, I recommend this book as a practical and comprehensive tool for the study of Reiki and life energy. It will be of interest to newcomers for the history and basic techniques of Reiki. It will be instructive to practitioners and teachers through the case histories and integration with chakra energetics model. The knowledge presented is in the tradition of the original method which provides energy balancing at all levels-physical,mental,emotional, spiritual. This book illustrates the on-going development of Reiki as a growing complentary modality in the healing arts. John Harvey Gray is one of the original US Masters and has dedicated his life to sharing and teaching Reiki through classes and the establishment of Reiki wellness centers.
Reiki Handbook: A Manual for Students and Therapists of the Usui Shiki Ryhoho System of Healing
ASIN: 0962550019

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Basic Reiki and Lots of Misinfo
Comments: This book presents itself as a Reiki I manual, and uses a lot of space to show hand positions and leaves spaces for notes and journaling. It devotes a lot of space to Reiki for animals and provides some simplistic information about healing diets and dishes for humans and animals. It tells the Reiki history that has been shown to be mythology, and generally presents only basic and incomplete information. I guess only a Reiki I would be likely to accept this book as authoritative. There are now many other more useful books about Reiki, and if you want to take notes during your practice just buy a cheap pad or book of paper.
Reiki, A Way of Life
ASIN: 1891554182

Customer's Rating: 5

The Power of Reiki: An Ancient Hands-On Healing Technique
ASIN: 0805055592

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: One of the very best books available on Reiki
Comments: Consider this book an introduction to Reiki, explaining clearly what Reiki is and what it does. Also consider it your extra training Manual for when you've been attuned. This book, more than others, will give you the idea of the loving healing flow that Reiki really is, and is one of the very best, most accurate and most informative books on the subject that you will buy. Very well done from concept to finish. Highly recommended by Reiki healers and master teachers. Buy this one first, and other Reiki books later.
Reiki Fire
ASIN: 0914955500

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Reiki Fire. An illuminating Flame
Comments: Frank Arjava Petter has, in a rather small book answered a lot of big questions. Many of us in the Reiki community have always doubted much of the 'myth' of this almost etherial Mikao Usui. Petter's passion, not only for Reiki, but also for truth, comes across very well. His grasp on the culture and mind-set of Japan and the Japanese, from his European viewpoint is a perspective we rarely get to understand in the West. There will be those that have trotted out the unsubstantiated and untrue myths for so long that they will undoubtedly feel threatened by the compelling revelations concerning Usui's Buddhist background and practice. The 'Truth will out' they say, and Frank's brave position in producing such a book is commendable. His easy style and experience of Reiki comes across in the form of friendly counsel, instead of dogmatic teaching. Frank Arjava Petter has done a tremendous service for those in Reiki, that seek the truth of their heritage and wish to teach from a position of integrity. He is a valid and credible messenger in times of change. I recommend this book to all serious Reiki practitioners.

The Book on Karuna Reiki: Advanced Healing Energy for Our Evolving World
ASIN: 096787212X

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: No new information...
Comments: I got nothing new in this book. When I got my attunements from my teacher, I got all the same info from the accomapnying manual by William Rand. Besides, I felt that the print in the book was like reading a draft on MS word! The book was over-priced for what it gives the reader (considering you have to take a class anyway to get the attunements). Very disappointing.
Reiki: Universal Life Energy
ASIN: 0940795027

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Nicely Neutral Or Pretty Vacant?
Comments: A sweet and nice book, but still a little "vacant" to me. It contains references to eventual emotional and mental symptoms behind the causes for illnesses that can be a worth while reading if you are interested in such things.
All Love : A Guidebook For Healing With Sekhem-Seichim-Reiki And SKHM
ASIN: 0967413516

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Can't wait for the teacher's edition!
Comments: As a SSR Master Teacher, I've been using this manual for my own Sekhem/Seichim/Reiki practice. The atunements in the back of the book are especially powerful and filled with love. For anyone interested in energy work, I would consider this required reading. Even if you have never been exposed to Reiki before and are interested in learning more about it from one of the best teachers out there (she attuned the woman who attuned me), this is a great book for novices as well as seasoned professionals.
Reiki Energy Medicine: Bringing the Healing Touch into Home, Hospital and Hospice
ASIN: 0892816333

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Good informational book for those in the Medical Profession
Comments: This is more a beginners guide to Reiki in the Medical Profession than anything else. Many of the ideas of where Reiki is from are outdated. Though for the most part the information is based on the Reiki tradition.
I was disappointed by the lack of in-depth techniques and information on HOW to apply Reiki in these situations. This is a "What is Reiki" and "How Reiki can benefit your profession" book. A beginners information guide again. Good for it's purpose.
The one thing I was upset by was the complete lack of discussion on the Ethics in Reiki. Even going so far as to tell people to do Reiki on people before asking permission. To me, a Reiki/Seichim Teacher the Ethics are some of the most important information to pass on.
Reiki: Hawayo Takata's Story
ASIN: 0944135064

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Pure and Simple and Extraordinary
Comments: This is my favorite book on Reiki. As all good things that have great power and energy, Reiki has generated a lot of discussion about who, what, how and when. Look no further. This story will touch your heart and if you haven't already you will want to try Reiki for yourself. I teach Reiki and recommend this book above all others. Hawayo Takata dedicated her life to this wonderful energy and paved the way for many miracles. It is truly an inspiring story.
Traditional Reiki for Our Times: Practical Methods for Personal and Planetary Healing
ASIN: 0892817771

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The gratitude shows through
Comments: From the first paragraph I was drawn into this book. Having just become a first degree practitioner, I felt an amazing sense of gratitude for the special gift that I have been allowed to share. While the way my master taught me is somewhat different from what was described, respect for differing approaches was embedded within the writing. A great deal of information was presented with an accepting attitude for differences. The true spirit and love of Reiki was apparent.
Reiki in Everyday Living, Second Edition
ASIN: 1880357046

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The book is energy itself
Comments: Reiki In Everyday Living has the same steady inspiration that was present in the first edition but is now formatted in a style that is easier to read with little bullets to the side that stuck in my mind for days.
What a joy to have so much heart felt information in one place.
This is a book that will never grow old with me.
Living Reiki: Takata's Teachings
ASIN: 0940795108

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Original traditions of Reiki for Total Beginners
Comments: I had never heard of Reiki until an advanced Amdahl computer science student of mine demonstrated it for me during a class lab in 1997. I was intrigued. The student told me he was a Level 2 Reiki Student and that one became a Level 1 Reiki Student after only one weekend class. So, I searched through the San Jose CA public library and found that Reiki Classes taught by Ms. Fran Brown were in a nearby town. I went and found that Ms. Brown was using "Living Reiki: Takata's Teachings" as the final teaching tool in her weekend class. This book makes the most sense if one has just recently attended (or will be attending) a Reiki class taught by a live instructor. According to the book, Reiki was "re-discovered" by a Christian seminary professor in Japan during the late 19th century. This professor (Dr. Usui Sensei) was asked by his students to be taught how Jesus did His "laying on of the hands" miracles. Dr. Ursui did not know, but promised to study the question. He did this for the next several years. Dr. Ursui taught many students over the years and chose Dr. Chujira Hayask to carry on the work. At Dr. Chujira's death, he chose Mrs. Hawayo H. Takata (1900-1980) to be his successor. Takata chose twenty-two people to succeed her in carrying on the tradition of manual healing. Mrs. Fran Brown was the seventh "Reiki Master" selected by Takata. So, this book is very close to the original teachers of Reiki and includes many personal recollections of Fran Brown she learned over the years. I highly recommend this book from a scientific and Christian perspective.
Reiki: A Torch in Daylight
ASIN: 0964082217

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Poorly written
Comments: I've used this book in some of my Reiki training classes, and though the information is good, it is badly in need of editing. I've also learned, since reading some of Frank Arjava Petter's books, that Mitchell's history of Reiki is not entirely accurate.
It is amateurishly written and edited, though I have found much of the information useful.
A Complete Book of Reiki Healing: Heal Yourself, Others, and the World Around You
ASIN: 0940795167

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Great Book for new practitioners and those interested.
Comments: This is a nice book for anyone interested in learning more about Reiki from a straight forward book with reliable information. The book begins with an explaination of universal life energy, then a nice little history of the Usui system (the traditional system of Reiki healing). The book goes on to give practical advice for new practitioners including a detailed section of b&w photos for hand placements for self, others, as well as animals. The book concludes with the authors' personal Reiki stories which are quite interesting.

Reiki in Everyday Living : How Universal Energy Is a Natural Part of Life, Medicine, and Personal Growth
ASIN: 1880357070

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The book about Reiki which I give all my Reiki students.
Comments: There are many books available which talk about the Usui System of Natural Healing (Reiki). Earlene Gleisner's "Reiki In Everyday Living" is the book I give my Reiki students or to those interested in learning about Reiki. These short essays and poems give the best illustration I've found for the "feel" of the practice of Reiki. I highly recommend it.
Reiki - The Legacy of Dr. Usui
ASIN: 091495556X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Opinion from a Reiki Master
Comments: I have studied Reiki and am a Reiki Master. I give this book to all of my Reiki students because it explains Reiki so simply and well. I especially like that it is informative without giving the impression that only the author's opinion of Reiki is important, and also that it sites Reiki's founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. It is clearly a tool to help one further one's understanding of Reiki.
Practical Reiki: A Step by Step Guide
ASIN: 0722534655

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A Practical Approach to Reiki
Comments: It was my desire to bring the message of Reiki in a very grounded and practical approach when I wrote this book. This is still my desire today. Keep it simple and practical yet give people an opportunity to see how easy and effective Reiki can be in their everyday lives. It is my hope that you will be able to understand this beautiful system not only with your mind but also with your heart. If you have not taken Reiki into your life you may choose to go so after reading the book, and for those of you who are in Reiki it will continue to be a good practical book to keep on your shelf and share with others.
Tapestry of Healing: Where Reiki and Medicine Intertwine
ASIN: 0971335001

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The best Reiki book on the market
Comments: Having read numerous books on Reiki and a student of metaphysics for over 30 years I encourage anyone who is interested in self healing and healing others to read Dr. Mill's book. Dr. Mills writes with a style that many authors never acheive. The ability to write for both the novice and Reiki Master. Reading this book may be the best thing that has ever happened to you.
Reiki: Beyond the Usui System
ASIN: 0964082225

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Inspiring
Comments: An inspiring book on the authoress' view on Reiki. She describes some meditative practices that are interesting and rewarding, among them a meditation where you get to meet Usui, Hayashi and Takata. The book also contains influences from Shamanism with the exorcism of entities and energies. Where Diane Stein fails completely (IMHO) with her fear of psychic attacks in her book on "Essential Reiki", Karyn Mitchell takes an entirely different approach and, instead of continuing to build up fear, shows us how to deal with it rather than add to the problem. This is great.
The only downside I found with this book was the chapter on manipulation of food which to me felt out of place and sounded very exaggerated. Even though Mitchell is trying to be informative this really takes the rate down for me. Maybe we don't have the same problems with food manipulations here in Sweden... at least not yet and never will I hope.
I enjoyed this book and since I read this book about 2 years ago my Reiki path have moved into Tibetan mysticism and Zen so I really look forward to reading "Reiki Mystery School" by the same author.
Abundance Through Reiki
ASIN: 091495525X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A breakthrough way to use Reiki to change your life...
Comments: This book is excellent. It is very specific: a book to teach you how to use Reiki to change your core beliefs about abundance and lack. It is NOT a book designed to teach you about Reiki itself. Reiki cannot be learned from a book (Diane Stein's teachings notwithstanding, see my Amazon.com review of her book.) It IS a book to teach those who are already Reiki practitioners to use Reiki to change their lives.
All too many of us carry negative beliefs about money and our right to abundance. Many of us were taught that money is "bad", that only those who are not spiritual will have abundance. What nonsense! Spirit wishes us to live life with abundance, it is our birthright (see Lee Carroll's Kryon books for more info on this topic.) Horan's book provides a step-by-step program which, if followed, will disolve blockages in your life and allow the natural abundance of the universe to flow through it.
I followed the program, and the changes in my life were amazing. Not overnight, but substantial nonetheless. The most important part was the change in my mental attitude, and how my life flowed from that. If you are already a Reiki practitioner who wants to change their life, buy this book! If you're interested in learning more about Reiki, find a good Master/Teacher in your area and seek training from them. A teacher is vital, you cannot learn it alone. But once learned, the changes in your life will astound you! I have been praticing Reiki since 1994, and have been a traditionally trained Master/Teacher since 1998. Feel free to email me for more info on this book or Reiki in general.
Self-Healing Reiki: Freeing the Symbols, Attunements, and Techniques
ASIN: 1583940359

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Misunderstanding
Comments: After reveiwing other comments from a Reiki Master about this book, It was obvious that she either misunderstood the message in the book or was trying to down grade the book for her own benifit. There is no mention in the book about the book passing the attunements to buyers of the book. The attunements are given through a video tape process. I have read the book and taken the video attunements associated with this book and they are powerful. I would hope other Reiki masters do not feel threatened and down grade this book. Reiki Masters charge lots of money to teach others the healing art of reiki. It seems that Barbara Emerson has now made Reiki available to all people rich and poor alike. The biggest reason for the book appears to be so Reiki can be shared by all at a reasonable price. If you fall pray to sour grapes from other Reiki Masters your cost to become a reiki master will be very high and you will get no help with sharing your new knowledge with others. Just remember, what you sow you shall reap. Sincerly Rick (Reiki Master)
Rainbow Reiki
ASIN: 0914955284

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: A wealth of wisdom and of technique
Comments: Rainbow Reiki by Walter Lubeck sets forth with the intent, according to the subtitle, of "expanding the reiki system with powerful spiritual abilities." This amazingly short, at 175 pages, text extensively explores the vast expanse of rainbow reiki technique and application. This thorough examination of the topic will prove beneficial to the reader with only minimal difficulty.
Walter Lubeck , a Reiki Master and author of several books, including The Complete Reiki Handbook, Reiki--Way of the Heart, and others, is the founder and director of the Reiki-Do Institute. He has developed rainbow reiki as a means of incorporating additional alternative healing modalities, such as channelling, astral travel, reiki essences, and others, into synergistic combination with reiki healing. As a synergism of the parts, this expanded reiki method promises to supply the practitioner with a wide range of potent techniques.
Most Reiki practitioners will probably feel quite comfortable within the world of Rainbow Reiki. Lubeck is quite thorough in detailing both the history of Usui reiki and the development of rainbow reiki. The prerequisites for performing the techniques he offers are explained in great detail. As the reader moves forward through the text, she will find chapter after chapter rich with techniques, ranging from aura and crystal techniques to uses of mandalas and power vortices...and much, much more. Perhaps few will be able or inclined to use or master all that is offered in this book; but everyone is sure to come away from reading it with at least a few new practices to add to their repertoire.
The difficulties with Rainbow Reiki are minimal. Stylistically, Rainbow Reiki is written in a somewhat dry, academic tone that some readers may find difficult to endure. Nonetheless, perseverence will reap rewards for the diligent reader. The only other point of issue is that Reiki I practitioners may feel left out since most of the practices of the book are specifically directed for use by more advanced reiki practitioners. This need not be the case, however, if the Reiki I reader uses this book to spur them on to advancement to higher levels and as a means of familiarizing themselves with some of the practices that await them as they advance.
In conclusion, Rainbow Reiki, though moderately difficult to read, is well worth the effort for the sheer wealth of techniques so extensively explained in its pages. Few, if any, other books are available to explore the world of reiki and specifically rainbow reiki in such breadth and depth

Summary: Reiki Clients Will Benefit from this Book
Comments: I am not a practitioner of Reiki but a client. As a client, I know that no book can ethically claim to be a "how to" book. Formal training is required. But if you are interested in receiving Reiki treatments, this book will help you feel even more relaxed about the process. Plus it gives wonderful background information for those who wish to pursue training in this area. I've glanced at several Reiki books and this is one of the best. So read, enjoy, and open up to the wonderful possibilities of Reiki!
Reiki and the Healing Buddha
ASIN: 0914955926

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Valuable Buddhist reference
Comments: ~~~This is a superb book to read in conjunction with Richard Blackwell (Lama Yeshe)'s book Medicine Dharma Reiki. The association of Reiki with the tradition of the Healing, or Medicine, Buddha is even more precisely outlined there.
Despite what one of the reviewers says about Reiki and Buddhism, Maureen Kelly and Richard Blackwell both draw on documents from Reiki's founder, Mikao Usui, and extensively note his teachings in establishing and expanding this connection. Maureen Kelly carefully~~~~ goes through secondary sources on his teachings; Richard Blackwell is fortunate to have primary sources that he translates from the Japanese. He adds his own commentary as well.
This is an outstanding book on its own; I just wanted to mention its connection to this second volume. Both are great books to read together; each is outstanding on its own merits-- spiritual and textual-- as well. I am a Yogi, not a Reiki practitioner, but I have had Reiki and my practitioners all love this book: it~~ enhanced their knowledge and gave them a structure for their own practices.
