T'ai Chi for Health - Yang Short Form
ASIN: 6301866576

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: EXCELLENT WORK, TERRY!
Comments: This video gives philosophy, history, warm-ups, basic postures and then goes through the instruction of the form step by step. Terry goes through this process properly and masterfully. Any person with some background in Tai Chi will have no problem understanding this tape. Such a person will also know how to implement other Tai Chi concepts that the tape does not obviously bring out but which Terry aludes to. What this means however is that the total beginner will have a challenge grasping some of the unseen fundamentals that can't be taught on any tape, but which Terry has applied throughout the tape...
T'ai Chi For Health: Yang Long Form
ASIN: 6301866584

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: begining tai chi pratitioner
Comments: I found this video to be very helpful in my training.I have been taking Tai Chi for a very short time and have learned the fundiments of the Yang short form. My work schedule changed and I will be taking Tai Chi only once a week and needed a traing suplement.I found this tape to a very value training aid and not difficult to follow.I was concerned about some of the reviews stating that this video was hard to follow and confusing. However,I found this was not the case for someone who had a background in Tai Chi even a very limited background as in my case.I feel that the expectation to lean Tai Chi from a video alone is placing an unreal expectation on this video or any other intrustional video.Tai Chi or any other martial art is very difficult if not impossible to learn from a video alone.I would suggest that if someone really wants to attempt to learn Tai Chi from a video they start with the short form video first to build a foundation before attempting to learn the long form on this video. In my case, all I can say is I am very pleased with my purchase and the quality of this product. I am sure this video will help me greatly in my futher training.
David Carradine's Tai Chi Workout for Beginners
ASIN: 6304945760

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Easy to follow at first...
Comments: I was encouraged by the beginner pace when I first began viewing this tape, but I found that as the video progressed, the movements were more difficult to follow. I am very familiar and comfortable with Chi Kung and was very interested in learning a Tai Chi form. I consider myself well coordinated and a fast learner. I've heard that you can't really learn Tai Chi from a video, but with my hectic schedule, I'm still hopeful I'll find the right video.

Tai Chi for Arthritis Part 2
ASIN: B00005U59X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Tai Chi for Arthritis 2
Comments: 12 Movement Forms (on the right and left sides) also incorporated much different Qi Gong practice like Tai Chi for Arthritis (12 forms). Is an ancient China Martial Art (Kung Fu) and it is a gentle, flowing moving meditation, for health. It is also done for health and fitness in China and the USA! Not only is it proven by scientific studies to be effective for reversing illness. It also possesses many other advantages making it an eminently suitable exercise for many.
Tai Chi has appeared in traditional Western medical journals. The May 1996 issue of The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reported on a study conducted at Emory University. The studies show that Tai Chi can reverse over 600 illnesses. Lowers blood pressure while improving balance and self-confidence and more.
Tai Chi was also shown to be effective in stress reduction in an investigation conducted at La Trobe University, Australia, in the early 1990's. And, unlike other exercises disiplines, there are no injuries related to Tai Chi in medical literature.
The Video it self is put together well by Dr Paul Lam's excellent teaching skills. The audios and visal are finely tuned to perfection.
I personally sell both Videos to my own students, who show they are ready for it. I have been doing Tai Chi since 1993 and I highly recommend Tai Chi for Arthritis 2. If your a beginner and first starting out, try Tai Chi for Arthritis and then buy Tai Chi for Arthritis 2 Video! Its worth it for home studies and practicing! PEACE~

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A must buy!
Comments: This is a great idea for a video. 20 T'ai-chi teachers got together and demonstrated their forms, push hands, sword play, self defense applications and even a lion dance. The video begins with an introduction to T'ai-chi explaining what it is and the differences between the various exercises, as well as self defense principles. Then you see the teachers giving their demonstrations. As an example, for the Yang form, several teachers give about a minute each of their form and each is blended into the next, so it seems like a seamless form. Yet you can see the variations in approach of each teacher. This is also true for the push hands, some more flowing, some more aggressive. A voice over explains what you are seeing and each teacher's name appears as he or she is shown. It is a fascinating video to watch as the teachers are many of the most well known in the T'ai-chi field. It was taped at Jou Tsung-Hwa's T'ai-chi Farm in New York State. (The farm is now gone, unfortunately, so this video is a sort of collector's item).
Buns of Steel: Mind/Body - Tai Chi
ASIN: 6303195857

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Nice short workout!
Comments: Very well instructed. Short but relaxing. I like his instructions, very well done and you do not have to think so much about what you are doing as he goes slow and is very clear in his instuctions. I found it very easy to follow. I would recommend this one for beginners like me.
Tai Chi - The 24 Forms
ASIN: 1583500197

Customer's Rating: 2
Summary: Good Instruction - Poor Video
Comments: The video quality of this DVD is poor. There is a good introduction to Tai Chi. The instruction was clear. I would recommend this only to someone who already does Tai Chi and wants a review of the forms.
Anthology T'ai Chi and Qigong: The Prescription for the Future - ENTIRE 3 VOLUME SET
ASIN: 1893634094

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Wonderful teaching tool
Comments: I would recommend this video series to anyone who wants a great alternative or supplement to their formal instruction in T'ai Chi. Bill Douglas' teaching approach makes learning and appreciating this wonderful internal martial art fun. I wish I had stumbled across this many many years ago, as I had always been interested in T'ai Chi, but good instructors are difficult to find in my area.
Anthology of T'ai Chi and Qigong: The Prescription for the Future
has been my answer and when you watch the tapes, and also read the book as an additional supplement, it is obvious the time and effort and professionalism that has gone into the making of this production.
My life has been enriched by this video series, and, at only lesson 10, I can't wait for the rest of it! As the material teaches, T'ai Chi is a lifelong learning process and, forme, this DVD has been great place to start. Many, many thanks to Bill Douglas for sharing his experience with the rest of us!
Tai Chi Sword
ASIN: 1889659053

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Learning Tai Chi Sword
Comments: Master Shou-Yu Liang does an outstanding job of showing the Tai Chi Sword form in 4 sections with 6 to 8 parts in each. He shows the front and back view as well as repeating each part 4 times. This method is good if you are following video as you learn. This way you will be able to repeat each part 4 times with the video. I especially like the background music (soft classical paino), stage setting and lighting with Tai Chi uniforms. You can see full body moves which helps when trying to understand the stance and arm and leg positioning. I would recommend this video to anyone interested in learn the Tai Chi Sword form.
Tai Chi - 6 Forms, 6 Easy Lessons
ASIN: 1885538715

Customer's Rating: 1
Summary: Confused
Comments: I'm confused how anyone could rate this DVD five stars??? Are Dr. Lam's friends writing in? This is by far the WORST instructional video I have ever seen. Talk about low budget...it looks like it was filmed in somebody's basement!
I've never written in a review before, but I feel compelled to warn people not to be deceived here. This video is truly awful. A complete waste of money. Nothing to be learned. Sorry, but there is just not one single redeeming quality about it.
T'ai Chi and QiGong: The Prescription for the Future (Volume 1)
ASIN: 1893634000

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: How to feel great!
Comments: I bought this video because of new interest in QiGong. The movements I had been doing left me feeling that my body was glad I was being gentle with it. Now, after going through this video several times, I can only descripe the effect of the QiGong movements by saying that they leave my body feeling in bliss. The depth of the relaxation encouraged by the movements and Bill Douglas's lack of competitiveness is profound. Because of the success of this, I have even started the T'ai Chi movements, something I had not intended to do. The videos group a small numnber of the T'ai Chi movements together in one lesson, and breaks them down into small pieces which are repeated several times. The process seems to be working, things are starting to flow. I find the book (The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi and QiGong) and the video complement each other nicely.
Tantra Tai Chi for Couples
ASIN: 0967290007

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Truly Excellent
Comments: This video was great! It was probably the funniest video I have ever seen. Even though I have been studying Tai Chi for the last 25 years and know that these people in the video know NOTHING about Tai Chi, this video is a must have if you want a copy of the most corny, funny, stuff ever documented on vhs.
Tai Chi for Busy People
ASIN: 1893792005

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A truly new approach to teaching Tai Chi!
Comments: Dr. Jeffrey has made Tai Chi learning inspirational. Tai Chi is not really that easy, but he makes things much easier to understand and a lot of fun to do! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn Tai Chi or just simply wants to know what Tai Chi is.
David Carradine's Tai Chi Workout
ASIN: 6302817668

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Great video
Comments: I liked the video but would not recommend it for people who have never practiced Tai Chi before. I would say it is a video for the intermediate Beginner. I like that it shows the individual movements as well as the complete form.
Tai Chi Single Fan
ASIN: 1889659142

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Tai Chi Single Fan
Comments: The instructional video was well produced with both front and rear view demonstrations of the fan routine. The entire routine was demonstrated both at the beginning of the tape and at the end. The fan routine was broken down into four sections. Each section was performed with a front view with names of postures and four rear view demonstrations. Two rear view demonstrations would have been sufficient. There was no verbal instruction of the routine. However, anyone with some Tai Chi background should be able to follow the format. The demonstrator, Helen Wu, comes from a long lineage of martial artist. Her grandfather, Wang Ziping, and mother, Wang Jurong, both have made history in China through their knowledge of Chinese Martial Arts. Overall, the video was well worth buying.
Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan and Its Applications
ASIN: 0940871181

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Complete Tai Chi video, even fighting applications!
Comments: This is one of Master Yang's first and best videos! He has been a pioneer in bringing the martial arts to America in their complete form, with tons of information in each of his videos and books. He is one of America's best-known and well-respected teachers of Tai Chi. This tape includes fundamental training, qigong for internal energy training, the entire Yang Style Long Form solo sequence, and rarely seen or discussed martial applications!

This video provides you with the foundation for a lifetime of practice. This is the perfect step-by-step guide for beginning and intermediate students, providing split-screen techniques and proper breathing instructions for easier learning. It's also useful for advanced students to learn self-defense applications and to refine their techniques. From here go on to Dr. Yang's, newer videos like "Taiji, Classical Yang Style", "Taiji Chin Na" and "Taiji Sword!"
T'ai Chi: The Mulan Style (A Feminine Art for Power, Grace and
ASIN: 1893634043

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Graceful
Comments: This tape teaches balance and grace. I work with seniors. People don't realize that balance is a major problem with older people. The moves in this tape look for easier than they are. I am still working on this tape. It takes a lot of strength to be this graceful. I hope they follow up with more of this type of tapes.
The Way of T'ai Chi Ch'uan
ASIN: 9991178856

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Excellent for Beginning and Intermediate Students
Comments: Lana G. Spraker's "The Way of T'ai Chi Ch'uan" is an excellent supplement to the practice of beginning and intermediate students of Taijiquan (T'ai Chi Ch'uan).
The tape consists of five sections: A brief history of Taijiquan, a demonstration of the 108 movement Yang style of Taiji (T'ai Chi), warming up prior to practice, detailed instruction of the first section of the Yang long form, and a demonstration of a class playing the first section of the Yang long form.
A Caveat: Don't expect to learn Taijiquan from this tape or any other. As it clearly states in the beginning of "The Way of T'ai Chi Ch'uan", tapes cannot replace the teaching of a conscientious instructor. However, "The Way of T'ai Chi Ch'uan" can be a helpful adjunct to the daily practice of beginning and intermediate students of Taiji.
The beginning student will want to use the warm-up and the detailed instruction of the first section of the Yang long form. Once the student has moved beyond the first section and warm-ups have become routine, he/she can use the demonstration of the complete 108 movement Yang long form as a study guide for learning the subtleties of the rest of the form.
The technical quality of the tape is average, the music is excellent and the instruction is superb.
Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan
ASIN: B00000J31B

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Glad I bought it.
Comments: I used this video to learn Chen form (without the benefit of a teacher). The tape quality seemed fine to me. It was easy to learn from - the camera zoomed in and out, showing every part of the body for every move. The movements were repeated, one by one and the form was shown a few times straight through. This is a nice tape. I still watch it just to get a feeling of the fluidity and power of the movements (hopefully to incorporate that into how I perform it).
T'ai Chi: Fitness and Health - Fundamentals
ASIN: 6302890950

Customer's Rating: 1
Summary: hard to follow
Comments: The video starts out alright, if a bit boring with just the hand motions. However, when the foot motions are added the view has to turn thier back to the TV. I found it impossible to follow without looking. If you don't learn movements quickly this is not the video for you.
Claire Hooton's T'ai Chi for Health and Fitness: Intermediate Level
ASIN: 6303049141

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Very good!
Comments: I own a large selection of Tai Chi videos and this as well as the Beginner's tape are by far the best. They make learning the Yang Style Short Form very easy. A Tai Chi teacher once saw me do the form could not believe I had learned from tapes. He thought I was an advanced student. The only problem is that Mrs. Hooton touches only lightly on breathing. Still the best Tai Chi tapes around. Thanks Mrs. Hooton!
Traditional Yang Tai Chi Chuan Demonstration and Instruction by Beverly Lui Wong (NTSC format)
ASIN: 0970577508

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Beverly Wong -Yang Tai Chi
Comments: This video is one of the better videos on Tai Chi that I have seen. I own 4 others. The multi-angle cameras and direction inserts help in the demonstration and of the learning of the hands and feet for each movement. The only disadvantage of this video is that some of it is in Chinese and you have to wait and listen for the English translation before you really understand. Her obvious knowledge and background of Tai Chi adds a dimension that no other video offers. This video is truly an excellant supplement to regular Tai Chi lessons.
Learn Tai Chi Chinese Self Healing
ASIN: 6302711886

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Honest Review
Comments: ... The reason is that htis production, unlike his own, was out of his hands, having to get the whole form into one hour which was an almost impossible task! It is possible to learn from this tape, however, you have to run the tape back and forth many times as it goes so quickly, unlike Erle's MTG1 tape ... which teaches the whole form step by step very comprehensively in two hours and 5 minutes.
If you wish to purchase a not so serious tape to learn Taijiquan just to get a feel for it, then this is a cheaper way to go. however, if you wish to take it that step further, then take a look at Erle's own video titles. He now has around 233 video titles covering every aspect of Taijiquan and Baguazhang as well as Qigong and Dim-Mak.
