The Wellness Book: The Comprehensive Guide to Maintaining Health and Treating Stress-Related Illness
ASIN: 0671797506

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Healthful Living
Comments: The Wellness Book has been extremely helpful to me and is one of the best investments I have made in myself. I first used this book 10 years ago and was able to establish some healthful living goals and actions for myself that improved my physical conditioning immensely. I continue to use it today. What I really like about this book is that it enables each reader to really focus in on their individual lifestyles, needs, and habits and develop specific, realistic, and individualized action plans for improved and healthful living. The improved physical condition that I realized as a result of focusing on a plan and actions enabled me to climb mountains in the Sierra Nevada. I have also used techniques in this book to successfully address anxiety. This week I pulled the book off of my shelf and am going at it again. I am having fun with this exercise because I can compare my "10 loves" from 10 years ago to my "10 loves" of today and put a plan in place to realize them. Many thanks to the authors for such insightful and all emcompassing work. This book is as useful and current today as it was the day it was written.
Health Journeys: Total Wellness
ASIN: 158621120X

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Fantastic CD set
Comments: I bought this set a month or so ago and have found it to be so soothing and relaxing - I can feel myself becoming better. I even got my husband to try out the one that's for sleep - it really does make a difference. Belleruth's voice and the music on these CDs are so soothing that they almost instantly take you to another place to let go of the stress and distractions of the day so that you can sink into a wonderful state of peace. I just love them. The set includes 4 CDs total - two are on stress, one is general wellness and one is for sleep. I'm buying copies for other family members too its so great.

Women's Health and Wellness: An Illustrated Guide
ASIN: 1587790564

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Love the clear explanations
Comments: I was initially drawn to this book because a family member had had a stroke and I really appreciated having an explanation that I (and my mother) could understand. The illustrations really make the difference. Although I've only had the book a short while, I've turned to it several more times as other ailments have impacted friends and families. Although the title says it's for Women's Health issues, many of the items discussed impact men as well. The glossary and online resources for more information were really helpful - I would also have liked an index. The only thing I found missing was information on Parkinson's. But overall this is a terrific resource that I highly recommend.
The New Wellness Encyclopedia : The Best-Selling Guide to Preventing Disease and Maintaining Your Health and Well-Being
ASIN: 0395733456

Summary: As a soldier, This book is a great help
Comments: I am a soldier in the US Army. I put a lot of stress daily on my body both physically and mentally. I constantly have health related questions. This book answers most of them and helps me get better insight on general health issues so I can ask my doctor the right questions. This book is easy to use and the index has every lookup word that you can think of for health insight.
Wellness Encyclopedia of Food and Nutrition
ASIN: 0929661508

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: It Couldn't Have Been Done Better
Comments: This book is a must for anyone who loves food. Nine comprehensive chapters covering not only fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, but also meat and poultry, fish and shellfish and dairy and eggs.
The chapter on Nutrition Basics is essential for anyone who wants to come to terms with food and how it relates to good health. Appendicies include a Cooking Glossary (which describes in detail baking, boiling, braising, poaching, pressure cooking, roasting, simmering, steeping, stewing, and on and on ...), Fats and Oils, and Herbs and Spices.
Subsections of each item include topics such as availability, shopping tips, storage, preparations and serving suggestions. Nutritional information boxes are included indicating calories, fat content, protein, carbohydrate, fiber, cholesterol and sodium. Also listed are key vitamins and nutrients.
Fascinating information is also included .. for example, the fruit/vegetable argument about tomatoes is not only settled definitively (botanically a fruit, specifically a berry) but we are also informed that as the result of a tariff dispute, it was officially designated a vegetable in 1893 by the Supreme Court of the United States ... Proving that the court's having their collective head up their robes is nothing new.
If you are serious about learning how to improve your relationship with food (and who isn't?) you've simply got to have this book. I've had mine since 1995 (I got it in conjunction with a subscription to the University of California at Berkeley's Wellness Letter), and I still consult it regularly.
I think that this book, along with Julia Child's "The Way To Cook" would be an excellent foundation for anyone who is serious about health and nutrition.
Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing: Five Steps to Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Wellness
ASIN: 0812930983

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A Guide Through the Labyrinth
Comments: What I love about INTUITIVE HEALING is that it addresses what so many of us have lost: common sense. Though the book is about intuition-which sounds like such an esoteric topic-it really is about taking action, about being directly engaged in the healing of our problems; it's about using our innate intuition-an ancient wisdom-to deal with a wide range of health issues. Dr. Orloff shows us how to listen to our bodies, to look for instinctive signs and signals, to see more deeply into what is going wrong-and what is going right-in our lives. In an era when traditional medicine and hospital settings can be so bewildering and overwhelming, Dr. Orloff's book provides a guide through the labyrinth. I loved her lovely, passionate, earthy words; I loved the stories she tells to illustrate how others have used their intuitive ability to heal. This book is a must for anyone who doesn't want to be a passive observer in their own well-being; this is a book for anyone who desires to be a participant.
